The Cali Modern Spanish Colonial

Project Type
Furnishing, Styling

Location
Los Angeles, Cali.

Nestled into the sun-drenched hills of Eagle Rock, Los Angeles, this Spanish Colonial had a great deal already working in its favor — stark white walls, beautifully restored black metal windows, and the kind of architectural bones that only ask to be honored. The work here was pure styling: an exercise in listening to what a space is already saying and answering it well.

The home's natural high contrast set the brief. Rather than amplifying it, the approach was to soften and balance — a warmer, more natural palette of wool, jute, blended woods, and leather woven throughout to ground the drama of black and white. Occasional pops of jewel tones surfaced to add dimensionality without disrupting the calm. Art was chosen for its geometry and scale, echoing the architecture rather than competing with it. Sourced almost entirely from widely-accessible brands, the result is a reminder that a considered eye matters more than a generous budget — a space that feels collected, layered, and very much alive.
